Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal (TIKZN) is hosting four Durban-based pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers at the Africa Health trade exhibition from 29-31May 2018, Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand Gauteng.

The pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing sectors are priority sectors for South Africa and KwaZulu-Natal. For its part TIKZN plays an important role in retaining and expanding business capacity in the province across a range of sectors including the pharmaceutical sector, said Neville Matjie Acting Chief Executive Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal.

“National government is focusing on localization and import substitution in a bid to expand businesses, create jobs, alleviate poverty and grow the economy. To this end we work with local companies to assist them to flourish so they not only supply the local market but can export into Africa and beyond,” said Matjie.

This is the second year that TIKZN has participated in the event. The objective is to create a platform to show case top tier local companies in the healthcare sector and their products to a wide market.

“Africa Health 2018 is an ideal platform as it attracts a wide variety of delegates from Africa, Europe, Turkey, Pakistan, India and China among others,” he said.

In addition to providing a showcase for these companies TIKZN has helped arrange one-on-one meetings with various companies to facilitate business linkages. It is also an opportunity to obtain knowledge to advance their businesses and improve competitiveness.

Local manufacturers attending under the wing of TIKZN are 3G Medical, Cerdak, Beier Drawtex Health and Medworx.

3G Medical is a manufacturer of a disposable hospital privacy (cubical) curtain made from a 100% recyclable non-woven polypropylene textile. The curtain fabric is treated with a flame retardant and a biocidal polymer blend which kills 99.99% of all bacteria, mould, fungus and viruses on the curtain.

Durban-based Beier Drawtex Healthcare is a wound care company that combines over 80 years of manufacturing intelligence with an ethos to change the face of advanced wound care through unique technologies and clinical excellence.

Cerdak brings a new dimension in wound healing by using ceramic granules for treating a wide variety of acute and chronic wounds.
The intricate design of the micro-porous ceramic sets the healing process in motion and maintains a continuous action ensuring a steady, natural and high quality wound healing.

Medworx clinical scientists have been creating world-class, sustainable healthcare products for the past 20 years. Their management methodology is based on a robust platform that combines insurance and occupational healthcare models. These include a range of health-related benefits, absenteeism, presenteeism and disease-risk profiling.
