Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal announces the Death of Board Member: Mr Cedric Gina

Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal regrets to announce the passing of Mr Cedric Gina, Independent Non-Executive Director on the Board of Directors of Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal who died in the early hours of Monday, 28 January 2019.

Mr Gina has been a key member of the Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal, having served as a Chairperson for the Human Resource and Social Ethics Committee. Mr Gina has been on the board for last seven years and has provided guidance and support to the organisation during his tenure.

He is a renowned leader in the national landscape, having held the prestigious position as President of the biggest metal workers trade union, the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa [NUMSA] for an extended period of time. Recognised for his dynamic, passionate leadership and participation, Mr Gina rose rapidly through the ranks. He became the general secretary of the Liberated Metalworkers Union of South Africa (Limusa), and in this position he committed himself wholeheartedly to the advancement of worker issues and representing the organisation on all fronts; national and international. 

Speaking on behalf of Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal, the Chief Executive Officer, Mr Neville Matjie said: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Mr Gina who was very critical in the drive for human resource management, social and ethics as chairperson of the boards sub-committee.  He assisted in ensuring that the organisation was up to speed on all issues related to the worker relations.  We have not only lost an activist but also a formidable leader.”

Mrs Ina Cronje, the Chairperson of TIKZN Board said “this is really a sad day for TIKZN, its staff and the board.  I wish to convey our deep-felt condolences to Cedric’s family, friends and industry associates. He was a valued member of the Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal Board who brought a wealth of experience and offered valuable contributions to the Board and its Committees. He will be sorely missed.”
